Tiffany McLean first hour students have been putting in the hard work to expand offerings at The Magic Bean coffee shop they operate by the PHS Library, and meet the growing demand of customers. Friday they offered free taste testing of one of their new Italian sodas. McClean's students garner life and employability skills working in the shop. They pitch ideas of what to offer, and assist with inventory and purchasing, making drinks, delivering to customers in their first hour, and also learn about money. During first hour students and staff can order hot or cold plain or flavored coffees, lattes, teas or Italian sodas. In addition, McClean's students will also soon be selling holiday craft items they have been making in other classes. Proceeds from the store help pay for McClean's students to take field trips.

Five of Bruce Rea's students took Vector the Viking robot dog for a walk around PHS today. It is a perfect opportunity for students to learn to skillfully operate the remote controls for the robot, so they can have chances to operate the robot dog at games.

Attention PHS Seniors!

A friendly reminder about the upcoming Apply Kansas Event scheduled for Tuesday, October 7th at Parsons High School.

All Kansas residents will be eligible to apply for undergraduate admissions to any public universities, community colleges, technical colleges, or independent colleges in the state of Kansas at no cost from October 6-8, but PHS seniors and their adults are invited to a special event on 10/7 during the school day.

Parent/Guardian(s) are invited to join their senior to submit college admission applications and the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) with support from professionals. There will also be giveaways and snacks!

Students enrolled in Ms. Lucas' College Orientation course will have their class period devoted to the cause. If parents need to attend outside that class period, please come when it is convenient for you and your student between 8:30 a.m. - 3:20 p.m. Guests, sign in at the Main Office and report to the Library for further instruction.

This is just one of the many ways that PHS staff and faculty want to help support students and families and make this process exciting in what could otherwise feel daunting. We look forward to seeing you soon!

For several years, drafting teacher Bruce Rea, and drafting and welding students, have worked on drafting CADD designs, cutting metal on the plasma cutter and welding together the pieces for a large, metal outdoor art installation for Bruce and Jodie Rea's property. The piece is a nonfunctioning, rough replica of the WALL-E robot, raising up a boot with one hand. When complete , the hand with the boot will stand about 10 feet tall, giving some context to the size of the completed ornamental art piece. The metal robot will rust naturally outdoors. Welding teacher Travis Brumback said he anticipates his students will finish the project this year.
