Parsons USD 503 announced Thursday that asbestos removal is complete at Washington School as of end of day, but the building remains closed to the public.

No permission has been granted by anyone for the general public to enter the building, contrary to some claims. Only those contracted to do work, and specific employees of the district, are allowed to enter. No trespassing signs are posted.

No tours are being given of the building and anyone entering the building without direct permission from the district office can be charged with criminal trespass.

Contrary to some people claiming publicly that plans are for the school to be refurbished, the USD 503 Board of Education will be moving forward with demolition of the building, as determined in the June board meeting. Those plans have not been altered.

The building could be razed as soon as October. To learn about the history of the building since the closure and the cause for the determination to raze the building visit the news section on the district’s website www.usd503.org/article/1178414.
