The strength of Parsons USD 503 public schools lies in the dedicated individuals who serve our students and community each day.
While classrooms are often the most visible part of education, the district’s success is made possible by a broad team of professionals whose work supports learning in countless ways.
Our educational support staff—including food service workers, custodians, maintenance personnel, paraprofessionals, Title staff, bus drivers, nurses, clerical and secretarial professionals, information technology (IT) personnel, school resource officers, counselors, district office staff, speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, psychologists, and many others—play an essential role in creating safe, welcoming, and effective learning environments. Through their expertise, reliability, and commitment to students, they help ensure that every child has the opportunity to succeed.
Much of this important work happens behind the scenes and often without public recognition. However, these contributions are vital to the district’s mission and to the daily operations of our schools.
To honor and celebrate the meaningful impact of these team members, Parsons USD 503 has established the “You Make a Difference” Award. Each month, nominations are accepted to recognize two outstanding educational support staff members whose service and dedication exemplify excellence. Nominations may be submitted by any district employee, ensuring that colleagues across all roles have the opportunity to highlight those who make a difference every day.
The May recipient of this award is Substitute Teacher Marleah Wyland. Mrs. Wyland, who has served as a substitute SPED Teacher at Guthridge since February, will continue in that position until the end of this school year.
Nominator Brittni Trytek said:
“ I would like to formally nominate Marleah for her outstanding work in a long-term substitute position in 4th grade special education. She has consistently gone above and beyond in supporting her students throughout the semester, demonstrating both dedication and compassion. Marleah has taken the initiative to thoroughly study her curriculum and each student’s IEPs to ensure they receive the individualized support they need to succeed. She approaches her role with professionalism, is not afraid to ask thoughtful questions, and actively seeks guidance to navigate challenges effectively. Her commitment to her students’ growth and her willingness to continuously improve make her highly deserving of this recognition.”
Kathleen Lamb, also nominated Marleah, explaining that for many years Marleah has worn multiple hats at the same time and still continues to do so.
“I would love to list all her “hats” she has/continues to wear, but I know I don’t know all. She makes it look so easy, too! Handles each and every task very well. How does she do it and continues to do so throughout the years? I need in on her secret!
A true Viking Parent & Staff. She is truly a good soul. She loves and cares for all, constantly. Staff, students, parents, everyone! She wants to help all without hesitation. During school hours and after in the community. There are so many staff that I can talk highly about, but for this time being and only being able to pick one this time...Mrs. Marleah Wyland!”
We congratulate Marleah Wyland for her commitment to excellence that truly embodies the core values of Parsons USD 503. She exemplifies what it means to be a team member.
