PHS FCCLA students volunteered today to help unpack nonperishable food items and distribute them amongst 800 Stella Wells Christmas food boxes lining the floor of the Sutherland building. The students got to work side-by-side with descendants of Stella Wells who came to help.

PHS Honor Flight students were among those helping place wreaths on veterans' graves during the first Wreaths Across America event held Saturday at the historical Oakwood Cemetery. The Parsons Historical Museum board set up the event - a tribute to the lives of those who served.

PHS art students were challenged to design, create and decorate a chair that would hold the weight of PHS Assistant Principal Tyler Thompson. Only two creations landed Mr. Thompson on the floor as they collapsed. The student body votes for their favorite one. Winner gets a pizza.

Graphic Design students are busy in Mrs. Telfer's class wrapping up end of semester work they are doing for others, as well as personal projects and assignments.

A huge thanks to the First Presbyterian Church for carrying on the tradition of Angel Shoes this year, using generous church and community donations to provide 46 children from Guthridge and Parsons Middle School with new shoes from the Shoe Dept this holiday season.

Students in Mr. Gilpin's construction class assembled a new couch for the regulation room at PHS. Kristina Mayhue received a $605 Parsons Educational Foundation mini grant to upgrade the room. She also ordered a lighted, noise machine and puzzles, as well as hygiene items.

Mrs. Liska's class, at Garfield School, learned about the history of pomanders from volunteer/mentor Mrs. Lubbers, who then guided them in making their own to take home for the holidays. While students made their pomanders, Mrs. Lubbers also read them a holiday story.

Parsons Middle School students are experimenting with clay in art class and are taking on making ornaments as a first project, while learning about the properties of the clay and how to work with this art medium.

Parsons Middle School students in Mr. Campmier's FACS class are learning how to make soft pretzels. In small groups Tuesday, they mixed ingredients and kneaded their dough. Next they will be able to shape the dough, boil it and bake it to a golden brown.

Parsons Middle School students in Mr. Ozier's science class are studying cells. They had a chance to create a model of a cell using traditional materials or to make edible versions, like some of these models made of cake and topped with various candies.

Thank you Parsons Educational Foundation for a mini grant providing all first grade students with handheld erasable white boards that are blank on one side and lined on the other. Reusing the boards for assignments all year allows for tremendous cost savings and reduces waste.

Learning to weld can provide students skills and abilities they can use not only to build and repair items of utility, but also to be creative artistically, like these three students who are creating a small robot made of scrap metal, parts, old tools and pieces of hardware.

PHS drafting students looked on as O'Brien Ready Mix arrived at PHS Monday morning to pour concrete into the forms Heck & Wicker Construction are building for PHS students to construct the iron colonnade they have designed for the Five Pathways to Freedom Veterans Memorial.

Parsons Middle School SparkWheel accepted student volunteers to ring the bell for the Salvation Army Christmas Kettle Campaign at the Parsons Walmart Friday. SparkWheel promotes success in school and life, by removing barriers so students thrive and reach their full potential.

PHS Honors Chemistry students performed several experiments Friday during a lab related to chemical reactions that produced solids, liquids and gases. For example, they observed as heat was applied to one substance in a test tube to produce a gas that ignited a nearby ember.

PHS National Honor Society students volunteer annually to help with set up for the Stella Wells Christmas Tree Auction. The auction benefits the community by providing food baskets for families in need. Many of the students will also help with filling the baskets for families.

More Lincoln and Garfield students toured the Stella Wells Christmas Tree Auction trees today, before they all get auctioned tonight. KSN was on hand to learn about Stella Wells and how the auction has helped the community for 35 years now, carrying on Stella Wells' efforts.
