Students in Katrina Strode's third grade class took their first steps to learning the basics of coding Thursday, using Spheros. Students use a coordinating app on an iPad that links to the Spheros allowing them to operate the Sphero in different ways, increasing in complexity.

Students in Katrina Strode's third grade class visited space via virtual reality goggles today, and researched a planet, moon or dwarf planet. The students will further use technology, employing Book Creator, to write and illustrate their own book to be published about space.

Following an early breakfast Tuesday, certified staff heard from Superintendent Lori Ray about creating a new strategic plan, beginning with their input. They also engaged in professional development and worked in their classrooms preparing for students' return Wednesday.

Janell Houk's geometry students were challenged to design and build, according to proper ratios, a structure out of Pop Tarts. Creativity abounded with students designing everything from a beach house, to a train, to a football stadium. The beach house and train tied for 1st.

Santa appeared at Lincoln Elementary this morning and met all the children and learn what they want for Christmas. To the children's delight, Santa surprised all of them with an early Christmas present! Teachers took lots of pictures so kids can remember this special day!

Thanks to the Angel Shoe Project, 30 students from Guthridge and Parsons Middle School shopped for new shoes at the Shoe Dept. Friday, The project, coordinated by the Presbyterian Church, accepts community donations to help purchase the new shoes for students in need.

District maintenance personnel tackled the job of leaf clean up at Parsons High School Friday morning, and this Cyclone Rake, working as a giant vacuum hose to suck up big piles of leaves, makes the job go much faster.

Parsons Middle School volunteered to decorate a tree for the Stella Wells Auction this year. Tech students made all of the Viking-themed ornaments for the tree on 3-D printers, including the chain garland. Keep watch. They will be selling similar ornaments soon as a fundraiser.

Parsons High School hosted a clinic for all students chosen to participate in the SEKMEA District Orchestra in Pittsburg Dec. 2 at the Bicknell Family Center For the Arts. Students used the entire day to practice together in preparation for this honorary performance.

Mr. Campmier, his student Ethan Brown and principal Mr. Gordon were interviewed Wednesday by KSN and KOAM TV about Mr. Campmier saving Ethan's life last week. This is just another great example of what wonderful, amazing staff Parsons USD 503 has in all of its schools!

As one of about a dozen jobs on their schedule Wednesday, USD 503 maintenance personnel ran electric to a specific wall in the technology lab at Parsons Middle School, and installed mounting brackets, allowing them to install wide screen TVs.
