Oct. 18 is Bus Driver Appreciation Day. Superintendent Lori Ray expressed her appreciation a couple of days early by making and serving all the USD 503 bus drivers a big breakfast, which included her most- loved breakfast casseroles, fresh fruit, donuts and some Hershey Kisses.

For administration and teachers, the learning never stops. There was no school for students on Monday, but administration and teachers at every grade level were in attendance and participated in professional development sessions.

Parsons Middle School seventh grader Collin Ray nabbed third place at the Labette County Spelling Bee Wednesday. He and Emily Gage, a fifth grader from Guthridge, represented the district at the bee this year. The bee lasted five rounds.

The razing of Washington School began Tuesday morning. It is anticipated the demolition, backfill and other aspects of the project will take about a month. The contractor plans to put some bricks outside the fence for those who would like to get one.

The learning never stops for USD 503 teachers and administrators who on Monday participated in professional development activities throughout the day. Teachers participated in a High Impact Learning workshop and LETRS training, a language essentials course.

Design Mechanical was among several businesses working in, on and around the old Washington School Tuesday. The company was collecting refrigerant from roof top air-conditioning units. Interior Demolition is taking place this week. Exterior demolition will begin next week.
