Rather than learning about lab safety from a book, Mr. Campmier divided Parsons Middle School technology students into small groups and assigned each a category of safety over which they are responsible for creating a slide show to present to the rest of the class to teach them about those aspects of safety they need to know. Presentations are later this week.

To find the baseline of knowledge for her 8th grade American history students, Mrs. Shaffer developed games of Kahoot! Many questions Monday focused on students' knowledge of the Declaration of Independence, U.S. Constitution, and Bill of Rights. Students did fairly well.

Mr. Campmier's Intro to Technology students completed a "15-minute research project" over shop safety and presented their findings to the class. This activity helps students build background knowledge in an unfamiliar subject and lays the groundwork for students to complete a more in-depth safety project next week.

The theme at Parsons Middle School this year is "Challenge Accepted." To kick things off, Mrs. Nolting and Mr. Krull told students that the Viking Time classes that were the most engaged this week would get to participate in a tug-of-war competition Friday. Four classes made the cut, and Mr. Hutley's was the end all winner of the tug-of-war competition. They are excited to see students accept next week's challenge and see who the winners will be.

Students in Mr. Campmier's communications class laughed and had a blast as they enjoyed a multiplayer ice breaker game of Geo Guessr, a browser-based world geography game in which players must deduce locations from Google Street View imagery. Group games can be a great way to enhance non-verbal, listening and verbal communication skills, three of the the forms of communication skills students will be working to refine this year, among others.
