
As a part of learning about the operations and capabilities of 3-D printers, students in Ms. Moon's second grade class at Garfield had the chance to assemble their own glow in the dark fidget spinners, with the help if Technology Integration Specialist Matthew Peak.

Parsons Mayor Eric Strait spoke to third graders about his role as a City Commissioner/Mayor, what it takes to obtain that position and what is required to serve in that position. He encouraged them as they grow up to be part of the solution, and not just point out problems.

PHS juniors and seniors attended the College Planning Conference at Labette Community College Tuesday, allowing them the chance to talk with representatives of colleges and technical schools across the state and nearby, learning about admittance and what each has to offer.

Parsons High School KEY Club members continued the annual tradition of volunteering to provide little trick-or-treaters with games and activities prior to the start of the Halloween Monster March in downtown Parsons. Way to represent, Vikes!

Thanks to some downtown Parsons business owners, Parsons Middle School seventh grade students had the chance to learn first hand what it took for them to open their own businesses. Students learned about researching, loans, grants, inventory purchases, time investment and more.





With the help of community volunteers, Parsons Middle School 8th grade students stepped into the world of adulting Monday. The students participated in Finance Now, sponsored by SparkWheel. Students were assigned careers, and then based on their income learned about budgeting for monthly living expenses, like groceries, utilities, phone, health care, housing, child care, car payments, and entertainment. They also faced chance happenings, like accidents, that bring about unexpected costs.

Thank you to the Parsons Fire Department whose firefighters were on hand Monday to train PHS Career and Technical Education students in the use of fire extinguishers. Should the need ever arise for them to be able to use one, they will be ready.

About 28 PHS students attended the Labette Community College Allied Health Sciences Day, and learned about the programs offered, requirements of entry and demands the course loads place on students, including clinical rotations, so they know what to expect. Thank you, LCC!

Parsons USD 503 honored its bus drivers and the Director of Transportation, Rick Giefer,
Wednesday as it was proclaimed by the Governor to be Kansas School Transportation Appreciation Day. Parsons drivers commit to the safety of our "most precious cargo" every day.

The USD 503 maintenance crew has worked this week to plant new memorial trees in front of PHS, replacing those killed by drought. Measures have been put in place to help protect the new trees. The crew will reset the memorial plaques by each of the trees once work is complete.

We are hiring a part-time bus driver. Great pay!


Teachers had the opportunity to choose from a wide array of professional development opportunities Monday. Dozens of topics were covered during the six sessions, allowing teachers a chance to enhance their knowledge and skills in the areas they felt most important to them.




School was in session Monday for teachers, as they participated in Differentiated Professional Development. This day teachers choose topics taught by experienced peers that will best enhance their own skills and abilities in the classroom. It is also a great day for networking.






Hundreds of years of collective knowledge and experience were shared by teachers and administrators with their peers Monday during Differentiated Professional Development. Teachers had the opportunity to choose topics that most interested them that would enhance their abilities.
